There is not a single moment or situation in life when lowering your aim is beneficial, unless your prey moves lower on the horizon. Lowering your aim always undermines your successs and well-being, especially when you are weakest, with little agency and see no path forward.

Are you aiming as high as you can? Are you acting boldly every moment? I encourage you to always ask and aim for what you actually want, your largest dream in it's most grand, whole and fulfilling form – and not just some crumbles of what you want or a substitute. Always go full-out, strive for and ask directly for what you want, and, importantly, align your behaviour and decisions towards that which you most want, that which means the world to you. Do not settle for some 2nd-rate variant just because it's too “unlikely” or “hard” to get what you want, you feel unprepared or the path is not apparent to you yet. When you lower your aim, when you stop believing you can get what truly excites you, you adapt your behaviour accordingly and start losing energy and drive. But if you infuse your actions with meaning, if you go about your day with a sense of purpose, if you keep your dream present and act like you can actually reach it, you'll start to make progress.

You see what you aim at. […] Be careful what you aim at.
Jordan B. Peterson
You set your trajectory with your aim. Unless you aim high, you're only going down. And since you're moving towards where you're aiming at, if you aim low, with every step you'll start out lower than before; accelerating your downward movement. Conversely, constantly aiming high starts you on a journey of accelerating growth. So, take a moment to remember what you life for, relive the passion when you first dreamt that dream; indulge in a reverie and feel your dream becoming alive. Then, aim high and boldly walk the path that leads you closer to that dream.
